Information you find on many paranormal websites out there can steer you in the wrong direction!  This
has inspired our false positives page.
Here are some examples of false positive ghost pictures.  Most of these pictures have been
intentionally staged by us in hopes of educating people about things that can appear in photos and
seem paranormal.  Remember to try to be objective while investigating. Click on pics to enlarge.
Even though these orbs look
decent, they are simply dust being
illuminated by the flash of the
camera, as are most of  so called
orb photos. The dust is out of
focus, and the illusion of it having
a circle shape is created.
About a hundred "orbs"
joining pit-bull playtime!!
These are nothing more
than dust being kicked
up by the dogs,  and
illuminated by the flash.
Too much light exposure for
the LCD to handle caused
this anomaly, taken in Indy's
Hannah Mansion.  Notice
the illusion of movement.
Kodak has verified this
picture to be DEBUNKED!

Here is the letter.
Scared yet??? Don't be.
 Just need to dust.
Make sure to check out
the bottom of this page
for an explanation of
orbs in photos.
This strange streak must be
a vortex, right?  Wrong.
Just some strands of hair in
front of the lens.  While
shooting photos, people
with longer hair must be
cautious, especially outside
where the wind might blow
it without you really noticing.

Light reflecting off of a
surface that is OUTSIDE
of the camera's view, yet is
picked up as it is reflected
back into the picture.
Just a raindrop, illuminated
by the camera's flash.
Often, these type "orbs"
appear to be going
upwards in direction; this is
a dead giveaway for rain
and/or snow in most cases.
Here's a pretty common
event.  What is this crazy
chain of "orbs" you're
seeing here? Nothing
more than a camera strap
making its way in front of
the lens while snapping a
shot.
Another strange illuminated
streak.  You guessed it, just
a few more strands of hair.
This was done intentionally,
but this happens in a lot of
peoples' pictures out there.
Ponytails are a great idea for
photography.
This was given to us by
Kristyn at
TAPS, who wanted
to give us another example of
dust particles being illuminated
to share with you.
A blatant fake made on a
photo program. Did we get
ya??  Make sure to not be
fooled by these types of
pictures.
Another blatant fake
made on the computer.
These type of pics take a
close look to figure out.
Make sure to stay
objective.
Another camera strap
makes its way into the
picture.  We had some
fun with this one, if you
can't tell, and even added
part of a finger up top for
a nice glow effect.
More ghostly breath.
Smoke will produce
similar results,
although usually a bit
thinner and wispier
looking.
This picture looks ghostly
huh? It's not, this is
simply our breath in cold
air.
Breath in very
humid air can also do
this!!
Some spooky cigarette
smoke....  PROOF's
stance on "ecto" pics is
that they are pretty much
as worthless as orbs.
