Why is it that in like 90 percent of "ghost" pictures I see, the supposed entity is basically right on top
of the camera's lens? Is it that our friends from the afterlife are just hams for the camera? I highly
doubt it. I have seen probably 10,000 "paranormal" pictures fitting this bill, and cannot think of one
in particular I am extremely impressed with. Why is it that every time a ghost comes up on film, they
have to be right in your face?
The answer is simple. User error. If I had a dime for every cloud of breath or cigarette smoke I have
seen out here on the net, I'd be a rich rich paranormal investigator right now. These are the
supposed "ecto" pics you see all over the place. These are, and quote me on this, ridiculous, and
make what we do look bad. I am not trying to be mean here, I am trying to help everyone who
investigates the paranormal gain a bit of credibility. If our evidence is so easily disproved, this will
go nowhere, and investigators as a whole will suffer.
Another type of ghost that appears a millimeter away from us, is the eerie ghost of the camera strap.
These appear as chains of orbs, streaks of bright white light, or dark shadows, all where???? You
guessed it, directly in front of the camera. There are examples of these kinds of pictures on our
false positives page if you'd like to see.
Hair is probably my favorite thing that comes up in pictures. These appear directly in front of the
camera and appear as streaks, or thick layers of bright light, depending on how much hair is there. If
a ghost was around he would tell you to get a hair tie before snapping his picture. In all seriousness
though, this is something you have to take strongly into consideration when analyzing your pictures.
I will go out on a limb, and say that less than half a percent of pictures where something unusual
shows up directly in front of the lens, are of paranormal origin, if that. And I'll say it again, some of
these are simply ridiculous. These things can be seen on hundreds of paranormal websites, and in
my opinion, need removed immediately. They discredit the field of paranormal study, and make
investigators look as if they have no clue what they are talking about. Please stop and take a long
hard look before you put your pictures out there claiming paranormal activity. Be objective, and help
this field grow in the right direction.
Don't get me wrong, there are alot of great groups out there who are highly knowledgeable about
what they do. And I am not criticizing the mass public here either. Many of these pictures are indeed
stunning to look at, and can easily be mistaken for something else. I am talking to investigators - the
people who are supposed to be educated in what they do so they can teach it to others. Paranormal
investigation is making its way into the light of society, and it is our job not to get it sent back into the
dark where it came from by offering false information.
